Cambelt Change, TIMING CHAIN – Replacement Service
Expert technicians, fast fitting, free advice
Most modern car engines have a cambelt. These timing belts must be replaced at set intervals determined by the manufacturer.
Failure to do so risks the old belt snapping – causing severe damage to your car’s engine.
Car manufacturers’ cambelt service intervals can vary significantly, based on your vehicle’s:
- Age – the belt must be changed after every four to 10 years of use
- Mileage – the belt must be replaced every 36,000 to 110,000 miles.
A cambelt service normally includes replacing the belt, tensioner and idler wheels. We can source these kits very quickly – usually within one hour (or next day for unusual makes).
Cambelt fitting
Fitting your new cambelt can take between one and six hours – depending on your make of vehicle. Virtually all our timing belt work is done by our specialist technician Steve Lampard.
Is your car an Audi, Volkswagen, Skoda, Seat or diesel? If so, the cambelt must be fitted cold – so we will need your car the night before to give its engine time to cool down.
When is my cambelt change due?

Some cars (such as Mercedes-Benz) have metal timing chains rather than rubber belts. These chains do not normally need replacing.
